We will use calculators, computers, CBRs and different software regularly during the year. Using technology is a necessary skill you need for your future. I would like you to keep in mind that calculators, computers and other technology are only tools that perform operations they are asked to do. You must always stay in full command of technology.

Although enthusiastic about the use of technology in my courses,
I am the first to acknowledge it as a supplement to our class face-to-face interaction.

The following are some components and functions of the computer conferencing I am intended to use in the math course. Keep in mind that...

  • conferences have the same function as announcements in face- to-face classes. I can, for example, introduce my Math Lab hours, class readings, assignment deadlines, and test/examination advice. The electronic BB is equally accessible to those who attended class and those who missed. It is permanently displayed and automatically marked with the date etc. Since it is interactive, it also allows for clarification of announcements.

  • it is likely that if one student in our class has a problem understanding or interpreting, other students will share the problem. So, in order to benefit both inquirer and readers, conferences will be used for questions and answers that can clarify issues and elaborate on material presented in class.

  • a free flow discussion conference may be used in our class to continue and supplement interaction in the face-to-face class. You can pursue ideas between classes after you have read further and reflected on the issues. The discussion does not need to be inconclusive or aimless since any student can focus on a series of comments and test group consensus.

  • in a structured seminar, sub-topics have been matched to units of course material. This is particularly useful for those of you who have incoherent course progress.

  • conferences for peer counseling are primarily for student-to-student interaction. These conferences provide a medium for mutual support and advice on academic issues such as test/exam preparation, and existential crises related to work with thesis proposals student.

  • conference systems can facilitate group work such as case study preparation, project development, and team presentation. Conferences can further provide forums in which classes can analyze problems, coordinate individual work, prepare group papers, and review and revise each other's work.

  • a conference open for our students and their parents can address many important for the learning community questions.
