Dear parents of my math students,

I would like to welcome your child to my class. I am looking forward to an exciting year. I hope he will enjoy mathematics and will take the best I am
able to give as a teacher. I will try to convince my students that mathematics
is not "a bunch of rules to memorize and follow", but an interesting process that enables people to solve different life problems.
I hope they will experience the utility, power and beauty of mathematics.

My grading policy is explained in the letter to the students.
In addition to the described regular grading, my permanent informal assessment is supposed to show students what areas in mathematics they have to improve and what gaps to make up. Students in my class can appeal the teacher's decision if they feel that it is not fair. I value students attempts to obtain justice, and they will certainly get a chance to defend their opinion. Mathematics loves proofs. Therefore, students will have to prove and defend their point of view. In turn, I will do the same. Hopefully, all students will actively participate in discussions. Open discussion leads to better communication and understanding between teacher and student.

I respect my students’ opinions and encourage them to evaluate the pace of my course and its quality.
I appreciate and consider any creative suggestions. I also trust my students on grading themselves on Take Home Quizzes and other situations that require honesty. I expect them to respect me and not to abuse the given trust. Mutual respect and trust are key words for getting a success in the educational process.

Grades are a big concern to students and their parents. I will be more than happy to help students earn good grades. Students will be given many opportunities to demonstrate all their abilities, not just speed and accuracy. They can prepare to presentation, a project or a research paper. They can complete a group-work assignment, work with long-term problems, investigations, etc.. This way students can show that they understand the material.

From time to time some misunderstandings or confusions in the teaching-learning process can appear. I believe in an open communication between parents, teacher and student. Any problems can be resolved between people willing to communicate on behalf of the common goal - BETTER EDUCATION for students. You are welcome to bring to my attention any concerns you might have at any time. I promise to do the same when I feel the necessity.
